AUDITION NOTICE

Audition times for our November 2009 season of Rent are filling up quickly with only a few audition times remaining for both Wednesday 15th and Saturday 18th of July.

To cater for all those who wish to audition and have not yet booked, we are opening a limited number of additional audition times on Sunday 19th July prior to the call backs.

Vocal, Character and Movement call backs for all cast being considered are on 19th July starting at 4pm.

Rent will run from the 6th to 21st November at The New Fab Factory.

RENT

Rent is a rock musical based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Bohème. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City.

Written by Jonathan Larson who sadly died of an aneurysm before he had a chance to see Rent open on Broadway, Rent is to culmination of his life's work fortold in our 2007 production of Tick, Tick, Boom!.

CHARACTER INFORMATION

Mark Cohen- Pop Tenor, 20’s
An aspiring Jewish film-maker. Never leaves home without a camera. Roger's best friend and caregiver. Narrates the show.

Roger Davis- Rock Tenor, 20’s
Struggling musician who discovers he is HIV Positive in a note his girlfriend leaves before committing suicide. Recovering drug addict, brooding and aggressive with a gentle side.

Mimi Marquez- Rock Belt, Late teens
A dancer in a sex show, heroin addict who is HIV Positive. Extremely sexy, optimistic, likeable but with dark secrets.

Benny Coffin III- Baritone, 25+
He used to live with Mark and Roger, but is now their landlord.

Maureen Johnson- Rock Belt, 20’s
Mark's drama queen ex-girlfriend. An actress and Joanne's new girlfriend. Young, sexy, quirky & funny.

Joanne Jefferson- Rock Belt, 25+
A lawyer and Maureen's girlfriend. Smart, mature, dry humour, politically connected.

Tom Collins- High Baritone, Late 20’s Early 30’s
Old friend and roomate of Mark and Roger. Computer teacher/philosopher & AIDS activist. Angel's boyfriend. Mature, warm, strong, and open personality.

Angel Schunard- Pop Tenor, 20’s
A street drummer, drag queen, with a heart of gold. He is also HIV positive.

Ensemble
3 male Singer/Actors with movement ability, Age 20-40’s
3 female Singer/Actors with movement ability, Age- 20-40’s

We are looking for a diverse and cultural ensemble, who are excellent singers and able to adapt to many different cameo parts and roles. The ensemble will be heavily involved in almost every scene.
